David (Horse) Barringhaus from Maryborough, Queensland, is a photographer who spends six months of the year living and working in Antarctica photographing and building infrastructure for the Australian Antarctic Division.   He has a background in boilermaking, fitting and machining in Australian mines and heavy construction.   Some of the images captured are unique because they can only be obtained by living at the Australian Research Stations on the eastern side of the continent.   Images of the New Zealand and United States Research Bases were obtained when moving between McMurdo(US) and Casey...more

Hercules LC130H In Antarctica

Maryborough, QL - May 24th, 2012

Photographer David "Horse" Barringhaus has released his new images of the famous aircraft Hercules LC 130H operating in Antarctica as part of his Transport in Antarctica Gallery. This workhorse is currently used by the United States Science Foundation to supply both the American and Australian Antarctic Bases. Horse has captured most of these images over at the Australian skiway located inland of Casey on the eastern coast of Antarctica. Operating out of the US Base McMurdo,the Hercules plays a vital role in delivering both supplies and personnel to the Australian Station as well as emergency evacuations.
